| Tarn et Garonne self catering cottage near Lauzerte. In the heart of Quercy Blanc, La Petite Grange is a well-appointed, centrally-heated one-bedroom, single storey gîte. In an exceptionally quiet location with wide views across the valley below. It shares a pool, tucked in a corner of 7 acres of garden and woodland, with our larger family house. | | | The "little barn" is actually quite big! Three of its four original stables have been converted into a comfortable one-bedroom apartment. The L-shaped living/dining room with kitchen corner has access to both the private patio and the garden, with its secluded pool. The bedroom has a king-size bed (160 x 190 cm), and a laundry lobby separates the bathroom from the main room.
The apartment's private patio, bordered by terraces of lavender and flowering shrubs and a "hedge" of Morning Glory (Ipomea) is perfect for meals or sunbathing – garden furniture, parasol and BBQ are provided – and has a terrific view across the valley below. Access to the patio and entrance is up a flight of landscaped stone steps equivalent to one storey. If you have special mobility needs, this could be a problem. And if you are allergic to cats – look elsewhere, as our two are likely to drop in!
La Petite Grange is on the edge of the sleepy hamlet of Tréjouls. The village tennis court is a short walk through our woods, and there is an attractive and challenging 9-hole golf course a few minutes drive away. Nearest shops, post office, restaurant, etc. are 6 kms (4 miles) away. Within 20 minutes' drive are three historic medieval "bastide" towns, Lauzerte, Montcuq and Castelnau, with their colourful street markets selling the local produce the area is justly famous for, including strawberries, melons, grapes, walnuts, honey, not forgetting foie gras and Coteaux du Quercy and Cahors appellation wines.
